Privacy policy
What Kinorama collects, what stays on your device, and your rights.
Kinorama is a free iPhone app with no ads and no in-app purchases, published by the person named at the top of this page. This policy describes, plainly, what the app and the kinorama.app website do with your data.
1. Playing without an account: nothing leaves your device
Kinorama plays without creating an account. In that case, no personal data is sent to our servers. Everything about you stays on your iPhone: your answers to the opening questionnaire (your relationship to cinema, your job, your tastes, what you want to learn), your per-card statistics, your daily streaks, your progress by cinema and by film, your personal list, your ranking and your favorite artists.
That data disappears with the app if you uninstall it.
2. If you create an account
An account is optional. It serves one purpose: backing up your personal list and your language, so you get them back if you reinstall the app. Here is what is stored on our servers, and why.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | Identifying you and letting you sign in |
| Your password | Signing in. It is handled by our authentication provider, never stored in clear text, never read by the app |
| A technical identifier | Linking your data to your account |
| Your language | Getting the app back in your language after a reinstall |
| Your personal list (films to watch, films seen) | Backing it up and getting it back after a reinstall |
Legal basis: performance of the service you request by creating an account (article 6.1.b of the GDPR).
Nothing else is stored. Your memorization progress never leaves your iPhone: the intervals, the due dates and your per-card results stay local, even with an account. The same goes for your answers to the opening questionnaire, your streaks, your favorite artists and your ranking.
3. The website: the launch list
If you leave your email address on kinorama.app to be notified at launch, we store it with your language and the date. It is used to send you a single message, on launch day, and is then deleted. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by writing to the address at the top of this page.
To limit abuse, the server keeps for two days a fingerprint of your IP address (an irreversible digest that cannot be turned back into the address), never the address itself.
4. Website audience measurement
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookie-free measurement with no identifier: it does not track visitors across sites and stores nothing on your device. It tells us, in aggregate, the number of visits, the pages viewed, the country and the referrers. No banner is needed.
5. What we do not do
No advertising tracking. No advertising. No selling or sharing of data. No third-party analytics, statistics or crash reporting tool in the app. No cookies on this website.
6. Where the data is hosted
Account data is hosted by Supabase, on servers located in the European Union. This website is served by Cloudflare, which processes technical connection data (IP address, browser) for the time it takes to serve the page, for security and performance.
7. For how long
Your account data is kept as long as your account exists, then for at most thirty days after its deletion, the time technical backups take. The launch list address is deleted after the launch message is sent.
8. Your rights
You can access your data, correct it, have it deleted or object to its processing.
- Deleting your account and all its data: in the app, Profile, then Account, then Delete my account. Deletion is immediate and final.
- Removing your address from the launch list, accessing your data or correcting it: write to the address at the top of this page. We answer within a month.
- You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL, cnil.fr) if you believe your rights are not respected.
9. Age
Kinorama is for people aged 13 and over. The website launch list is for people aged 15 and over: under French law a child under 15 cannot consent to this processing alone, and we do not want to collect a date of birth to check it.
10. Where the films, images and texts come from
Film data and images come from The Movie Database (TMDB). This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Some biographies come from Wikipedia and are distributed under the CC BY-SA licence. Reconciliation data comes from Wikidata (CC0). Details are on the Licenses page.
11. Updates
This page may change along with the app. The date of the last update appears at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
